You were born with wings. Why prefer to crawl through life? ~Rumi
New York psychotherapist Kim Seelbrede promotes a holistic body/mind/spirit approach to health and happiness that includes a concentration on emotional health, lifestyle changes, spirituality, healthy connections, sexuality and loving relationships. Her work is focused on providing emotional and physical guidance for conscious and healthy living in our increasingly busy world. Kim continually focuses on the proven value of 'nudges towards change' and the benefits of 'progress over perfection' in her efforts to support her clients.
It is possible to change your reality by understanding the patterns, conflicts and obstacles that interfere with your success and happiness. Maybe your concerns have a long history and you've tried everything and nothing seems to help. Or perhaps a recent event has overwhelmed you. If you feel stuck and hopeless, individual therapy or relationship counseling can help. With the right kind of support, you can get more of what you want-a successful relationship, happiness, self confidence, or even more energy in your life.
As a therapist, coach and consultant I work with adults, adolescents and couples. My approach to this work is a result of my experience and training in a broad range of techniques and modalities. My style is creative, engaging and direct, encouraging the individuals I work with to develop the ability to discover more adaptive ways to deal with stress and challenges in the present and future. Part of this process also involves identifying and mobilizing client strengths. Tapping your innate wisdom and strength can help propel you towards your goals. In addition to helping you understand yourself and your approach to life, I believe it is important to teach, support, inspire and motivate clients. Western modalities:
I hold a master's degree in social work from New York University (MSW) and have received advanced post-graduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, relational theory and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) from NYU. I have received additional training in the following areas: life coaching, stress reduction, hypnosis, EMDR, relaxation techniques, meditation, yoga therapy, addictions, adolescent treatment, trauma, LGBT clients, identity issues, forensic psychology, sexuality, relationships and family therapy. I am a licensed social worker and therapist in private practice in Manhattan. My training is rooted in classic and contemporary psychological theory as well as traditional clinical social work training which includes viewing the individual from the perspective of his/her unique cultural, environmental, family and social milieu.
Eastern modalities:
I am a wellness consultant, integrative therapist and yoga therapist trained with Donna Karan's groundbreaking Urban Zen Foundation. Additionally, I study nutrition and health counseling at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (INN). As an integrative therapist, I am influenced by Eastern philosophies and the holistic appeal of ancient traditions as well as the wisdom of yoga. Working with adolescents, adults and couples, I focus on the mind body connection.
I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), American Psychological Association (APA), International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).
