Therapy + Consultation Approach

Insight and self-awareness into one's patterns and conflicts may not always lead to change, therefore, Kim Seelbrede has found that integrating practical tools and skills into sessions, in addition to psychodynamic psychotherapy can support desired growth and behavioral change. In addition to her relational and interpersonal training, she uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills or DBT, Solution-Focused techniques, EMDR Therapy and Mindfulness, group therapy and weekend intensives as needed. In her counseling work with couples, she enjoys using her training with The Gottman Institute as well as Solution-Focused Therapy and Non-Violent Communication (NVC). Kim Seelbrede provides clinical supervision to new therapists working towards licensure as well as those building their private practices. Kim Seelbrede has been a student of psychology for decades and has enjoyed learning and gaining new skills from a variety of traditional and cutting-edge disciplines. She enjoys the creativity of weaving various modalities into her work with clients. She uses her blog LifeFix Rx and #shrinkthinks for educational purposes and to reach those who might not have access to mental health information. She consults and coaches clients in person and worldwide via telephone, Skype or HIPPA compliant videoconferencing. Online learning webinars and CBT Tools will be available soon for individuals struggling with anxiety, stress and self-esteem.

Kim's nature is curious, non-judgmental and compassionate; her psychotherapy and consultation practice reflects her core values of respect, integrity and kindness, as well as offering a flexible and eclectic approach to treating psychological symptoms. Her clients describe her as a warm and dynamic therapist and particularly helpful for clients who are seeking counseling for the first time. Psychological counseling is not only a place to explore personal struggles, but also a place to feel supported as clients celebrate and enjoy personal growth and success. Private consultations tend to be time-limited and offer clients the opportunity to gain professional knowledge and guidance to help and evaluate a particular issue or situation regarding themselves or someone they care about.

What to Expect

Problems, challenges and long-standing difficulties are rarely resolved as quickly as people would like. Quick fixes, so to speak, are rare. Some problem behaviors can and should be addressed immediately. I believe in an integrated approach to solving psychological issues that addresses the root cause of the problem as well as offering tools and strategies that change maladaptive thoughts and behaviors.  I am able to provide both short-term therapy such as solution-focused treatment or coaching as well as long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy that works to resolve conflicts, obstacles and dynamics that interfere with leading a vital and fulfilling life. I am motivated to help my clients achieve their goals as quickly as possible. Some individuals have longstanding difficulties that may require a longer course of treatment.  A consultation and assessment is the best way to determine client needs.
