Consultations For Referrals

I consult with individuals and families about personal and life challenges, a difficult transition or a crisis that may benefit from a focused solution-based approach using assessment, education, guidance, advice and resources. One example might be a family member who is struggling with an addiction and/or a mental health issue. Consultations tend to be time-limited and problem or goal-oriented in nature. Therapy consultations allow a client, parent or family member to explore concerns and to make decisions or changes in their lives that move them in a helpful direction. The consultation process is an opportunity to speak extensively about any problems and concerns in your current situation.A consultation is a proactive and preventative approach to obtaining guidance and support during a crisis, life transition or a particular situation.

I have presented workshops to individuals, small groups, companies and organizations on topics including: Managing stress, creating balance, communication skills, leadership skills, life after divorce, single again, self-care and strengthening relationships. What makes this different from psychotherapy is that the experience is limited, usually one or two sessions, and is not meant to replace ongoing therapy.  A consultation can help a client gain advice, insight, perspective, guidance and resources for their particular circumstance.  At the end of the consultation process I offer clients my assessment and a recommendation for treatment.  I provide consultation services to individuals, those seeking second opinions, parents, concerned family members, mental health professionals, and other professionals. I am happy to make recommendations and referrals as needed. Depending on the nature of the difficulties, appropriate referrals can be made, and consultations can be conducted by telephone, online via Skype or a secure, HIPPA compliant internet source for those who do not have access to a therapist or for individuals outside New York City.

Consultations And Referrals

Kim Seelbrede, a New York State licensed psychotherapist, offers psychological consultation and guidance to individuals and families to help them move through personal and life challenges, a difficult transition or a crisis. Clients benefit from the expertise of working with a highly-trained clinician who provides a focused, solution-based approach using assessment, education, guidance, advice and resources. One example might be a family member who is struggling with an addiction and/or a mental health issue. Consultations tend to be time-limited and problem or goal-oriented in nature. Consultations allow a client, parent or family member to explore concerns and to make decisions or changes in their lives that move them forward in a helpful direction.

The consultation process is an opportunity to speak about a crisis, or problems and concerns in one's current situation. A consultation is a proactive and preventative approach to obtaining guidance and support during a challenging situation. What makes this different from ongoing therapy is that the experience is limited--usually one or two sessions, and is not meant to replace ongoing therapy or counseling.  A consultation can help a client gain supportive advice, insight, perspective, guidance and resources for their particular circumstance. At the end of the consultation process Kim Seelbrede offers clients an assessment of the situation,  a recommendation for treatment if needed, and possible referrals to allied professionals, complementary/alternative referrals, medical doctors or other psychological services such as psychopharmacologists or psychiatrists. Because of the nature of the consultation process, clients are offered sessions in Manhattan or online for convenience.

As a psychotherapist with over ten years of experience in the mental health field, Kim Seelbrede offers the opportunity for clinical case consultation and supervision, as well as private practice building support to new practitioners or to those interested in deepening the work with their clients or patients. She provides consultation services to therapists and other mental health care providers who are interested in increasing their awareness of issues impacting therapy cases. Clinical consultation and supervision is offered as 50 minute sessions. Professional case supervision can be counted toward the requirements for clinical social workers in training. For Medical And Allied Health Professionals: Adjunctive EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Therapies, Meditation, Breathing Techniques And Restorative Yoga Therapy For Stress Management

Kim Seelbrede provides alternative and complementary support to medical, allied and mental health professionals in New York City. Using techniques such as EMDR, yoga therapy and relaxation responses as an adjunct to therapy and/or medical treatment, clients can be supported  to feel contained, grounded and in possession of new skills and tools. Adjunctive EMDR work can be used for clients struggling with a variety of concerns including PTSD, traumas, eating disorders, anxiety, addictions and attachment issues. The goal of adjunctive EMDR and stress management techniques is to help your clients learn to recognize when they feel activated and then return to a more resourced and regulated state. As such, their capacity to manage distress in the "here and now" as well as tolerate painful emotions is increased. Supportive techniques are a complement to traditional psychotherapy sessions. When I collaborate as an adjunct therapist, I make a commitment to both the primary therapist and the patient to support and preserve the integrity of their primary therapy relationship. The adjunct arrangements are considered short-term and specific symptom-oriented.
