Not just for trauma resolution, EMDR psychotherapy is an effective treatment for a variety of concerns. You can learn more about EMDR, or find an EMDR therapist by visiting EMDRIA.
Are you wondering if EMDR Therapy is a good fit for your therapeutic needs? Whether you are new to therapy, or you’ve had experience with psychotherapy and would like to take your healing to the next level, what follows are some challenges that EMDR has been shown to successfully treat:
Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
Chronic Illness and medical issues
Depression and bipolar disorders
Dissociative disorders
Eating disorders
Grief and loss
Medical trauma
Pain
Performance anxiety
Personality disorders
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Stress related issues
Sexual assault
Sleep disturbance
Substance abuse and addiction
Violence and abuse
After the therapist and client agree that EMDR therapy is a good fit, the client will work through the eight phases of EMDR therapy with their therapist. Focus is given to the negative image, belief, emotion, and body sensation related to this experience, and then to a positive belief that would indicate the issue was resolved. Ideally, EMDR therapy sessions last from 60-90 minutes. EMDR therapy may be used within traditional talk therapy, as an adjunctive therapy with a separate therapist, or as a treatment all by itself.
